The radical growth of Christianity among Gen Z (and others)
The next generation has received the message, and we are seeing the radical impact of Christianity globally in our day. Here are some examples of how Gen Z has been impacted by God.
Psalm 78 is written by Asaph. It is a juxtaposition of God’s faithfulness compared to Israel’s unfaithfulness. The message then was, “If we don’t tell each generation faithfully about God and His mighty deeds, the nation, the people will turn away from Him.” It is a profound encouragement to us today as well.
But we must not just “tell” them. We must live authentic lives of love, obedience, joy, and humility before each generation. They must see their forebears following God.
“We will not hide them from their children, but will tell a future generation the praiseworthy acts of the LORD, his might, and the wondrous works he has performed.” (Psalms 78:4)
“…he commanded our ancestors to teach to their children so that a future generation — children yet to be born — might know. They were to rise and tell their children.” (Psalm 78:5-6)
“…so that they [each generation] might put their confidence in God and not forget God’s works, but keep his commands.” (Psalms 78:7)
“Then they [this generation] would not be like their ancestors, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation whose heart was not loyal and whose spirit was not faithful to God.” (Psalms 78:8)
It’s Happening
Today, we are witnessing the miraculous. The next generation has received the message! The spiritual movement among Gen-Z is not just documented. It’s impossible to ignore. It’s not confined to the U.S. Globally, youth and young adults are turning to Christ in stunning numbers, halting and reversing a decades-long trend away from Christianity!

Consider these tidbits:
According to recent research from the Bible Society, there has been a significant change in churchgoing in the UK over the past few years. Their first survey in 2018 provided sobering reading — a familiar story of decline and disaffiliation across all age groups. However, when they repeated the same research in 2024 a very different picture emerged.
Remarkably, overall churchgoing had increased from 8 to 12 per cent — a 50 per cent rise. Significantly, there was little change among Boomers and Gen X. Instead, the growth was most marked among young people. 1

Atheism is on the decline, as Christianity is experiencing a dramatic rise. 2
Popular musicians like Jelly Roll, Benson Boone, Alex Warren, Thomas Rhett, and Carrie Underwood have unabashedly proclaimed their faith in their music. Consider Granger Smith. His signature hit “Backroad Song” reached #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in early 2016, also hitting #4 on Hot Country Songs and #49 on the Hot 100. In April 2023, he retired from touring to pursue Christian ministry, shifting focus toward speaking, writing, and serving his church. 3
In sports, we’ve seen almost entire teams publicly kneel in prayer after games. It’s not just for show. They join one another in Bible study during the week, in earnest pursuit of accountable relationships with God. 4
From the Asbury Revival in 2023 to the Unite movement on college campuses, we’ve seen stadiums filled and baptistries overflowing with young adults worshiping, converting and telling one another that God is alive. He loves us. He sent His Son Jesus. All who believe in Jesus, repenting of their sin, may receive and experience eternal and abundant life!
All generations in our generation are experiencing deep spiritual movement. Yesterday’s agnostic is today’s evangelist. Last year’s atheist is tomorrow’s Jesus follower. Comedian and actor Russell Brand believed in Jesus and was baptized by Bear Grylls. 5
In addition to these demonstrations of God’s power at work, consider the profound impact of Wesley Huff being invited on Joe Rogan’s podcast. It is the most popular podcast on Spotify with an audience of millions. Huff boldly shared the gospel with Rogan on the episode, and a worldwide audience heard it. 6
Bible sales are also booming worldwide. “In a year marked by rising anxiety and uncertainty, Bible sales in the U.S. have surged 22 percent, far outpacing the modest 1 percent growth in overall book sales.” 7
Be encouraged
As we marvel at God’s work today, let’s recommit to telling “the next generation” even as today’s generations are coming to Christ in unprecedented numbers.
It’s happened before.
“You have already heard about this hope in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. It is bearing fruit and growing all over the world, just as it has among you since the day you heard it and came to truly appreciate God’s grace.” (Colossians 1:5-6)
And it will keep happening, as each of us continue to faithfully tell the next generation.
What are other examples that you’ve seen or heard of that indicate Christianity’s growth?
