On Trump’s 2024 candidacy
Grab some popcorn and get ready for more political drama. When Trump declared his candidacy, a two-year show launched that none of us will be able to look away from.
Here we goooo… eek
The former president announced his candidacy for President in 2024. What do you think about that? I have lots of thoughts, but here’s just a few.
- Trump’s mouth does the rest of himself no favors (or maybe it’s his social media posts?). I wonder what would happen if he would genuinely and contritely apologize for his approach and bombastic, all-over-the-place rants and pledge to simply be about his policies? That’s a sincere question. I don’t see it happening, but hey, what if?
- Trump never had a fair shot from Day 1 of leading without resistance and interference. The Dems protested and claimed #NotMyPresident all over social media in 2016. They claimed the election was stolen (how quickly we forget that they were the first Trump election deniers.) Trump was impeached twice, pursued, investigated, harassed and distracted from the first day in office until his last. It’s no wonder he has a chip on his shoulder. I’d like to see Trump zero in on his fiscal policies, international trade, secure the border, strengthen the economy (again) and lead the U.S. to energy independence (again).
- On the other hand, America is tired. I wonder if we could endure another Trump presidency if he continues his course of outrageous name-calling, which would lead to (or may be caused by) more of the left’s shrill, vindictive treatment of him. We need a unifier.
- We also need someone with backbone. Trump definitely has that. So does Ron DeSantis. He has proven it through his governance of Florida. One success of Trump was exposing the deep corruption and malfeasance of lifetime politicians and the agencies (and countries) that finance them as well as the partisanship of the press. It takes a strong backbone to endure the DC morass.
- I would have a hard time supporting Trump without some behavioral changes. I usually just shook my head in frustration at his stupid tweets. His policies, on the other hand, were indisputably good for the country. Few people believe we are better off under Biden. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people post, “I miss the mean tweets.”

- A Trump-DeSantis ticket would be hard to not support. I would also love to see Tulsi Gabbard show up someplace – either as VP of Trump or DeSantis or a member of either’s cabinet.
Did you know…
“The Simpsons’ predicted Trump would run in 2024… back in 2015?1
Whoever ultimately secures the Republican nomination will probably get my vote. I’m not a Republican. Though I love politics, I am disgusted with both parties, though not equally and for different reasons. However, there is no way at present that I could ever support a Democrat candidate without major national party platform overhaul.

I think Trump is in trouble. The left has been on witch hunts for him for 6 years. They have built their side and themselves up into a lather over taking Trump down. Now the media, DOJ, FBI, and most other major entities in this country are on their side. And that side isn’t just the liberal left it’s getting closer to the communist left at this point. We should watch what’s happening in New York with their AG and with the newest “special counsel” going after him. They can’t suddenly say never mind it’s all a farce. After over… Read more »
“But that all being said, I would vote for him or DeSantis if they get the nomination.” Yep. As far as Trump being in trouble… I just don’t think they have anything against him. Your points about everything they’ve thrown at him actually make them look more desperate than anything else. And the American people are tired of this obvious partisan and lopsided justice. While other presidents and politicians and global leaders escape scrutiny and indictments, everything is set against Trump. People are tired of the hypocrisy. So we will see! Thanks for leaving a comment! Great to hear from… Read more »
Here is another concern. Never in my lifetime have I felt more vulnerable with our enemies. Our borders are not secure, there is no telling who has escaped into our country. My hometown of Hobbs, New Mexico (not a border town) has swelled in population and the infrastructure has been stretched to the max and that is just one example. I’ve not even the hot spots across our globe. We need a leader who strikes fear and hesitation in the hearts of our enemies.
Legit and sobering point. Those of us don’t live near the southern border can’t imagine how “unsafe” things feel down there. When DeSantis and Abbot offered to help our sanctuary cities actually become that by bussing illegal immigrants north, we saw how quickly the virtue signaling ended (ala Martha’s Vineyard).
You pretty well summed up my thoughts and concerns. The name he gave DeSantis made me shiver, and I thought “here we go again.” I don’t know if he can take the high road.
