A quick welcome (and thank you)

A welcome to new-ish subscribers and a thank you for tagging along!

Who knew that simply by posting a “subscribe to my blog” on Facebook/Twitter would generate so many new followers/subscribers?!

I wanted to take a moment and just say welcome and thanks for tagging along! And to those of you who have been reading for a while now, thank you as well!

I began this subscriber-based approach to blogging back in May last year. I still have journeyguy.com, and I re-post entries there from here after six months. There’s a lot I still miss from using WordPress as my primary blogging platform, but Substack has had advantages.

If you’re new, visit my “About” page for a bio and some history – or you can visit my post Hello! It’s me – Jeff for a quirkier intro.

Here at “Notes from the Trail,” you’ll find the following broad categories of posts:

  • Faith. I am a follower of Jesus and joyfully so. I am daily grateful for grace and enjoy sharing with others the blessedness of soul-peace that only He can provide. If you’re not a Christian, this is a safe place for you to lurk, explore and consider. I hope you’ll reach out if you have questions.
  • Technology. I’m a Mac guy. I would love to say I’m an Apple guy, but occasionally, Apple frustrates me. I’ve been known to ditch my iPhone for an Android or to experiment with dumb phones. However, since 1988, I have never ever thought about using a computer that wasn’t a Mac.
  • Politics. I love politics. 1 If you get triggered by a thoroughly conservative and often snarky perspective that challenges cultural narratives and disdains mainstream media, you have my permission to not read such posts. However, if your source of information is the nightly news, I encourage you to think outside your box and understand that there’s a vastly different world out there than what is presented to us by Mainstream Media Inc.
  • Quirky humor. You will not be disappointed in my dad jokes, love for jump scares (not being scared, but scaring others), and the things that produce in me #SLC (small little chuckles) and occasionally #LG (laughing guffaws).

Consider a coffee tip

If you like the posts you’ve been receiving, I’d appreciate you becoming a paid subscriber. It’s totally your own choice of rate – you can subscribe for as little as $5/mo. That’s the cost of a cup of coffee (which I drink an inordinate amount of) and would encourage me as I write more.

Other writings

Here are some other places you can read:

  • My book: Super Center Savior – The Joy of Living Between Sundays. It’s available through Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

  • I’m currently working on another book about the life of Peter the apostle!
  • On my old blog, there are some series that may encourage you:
    • Our Story series – an ongoing personal biography that tracks how God’s story impacted my family’s story
    • 12 things it’s important to know about me from way back in 2012 is still pretty accurate! 2
    • Our Cancer Saga series – we’ve had an epic journey through diagnoses, prayer, and stunning provision from God.
    • COVID Chronicles series – I had/have strong opinions on the pandemic. This series is not for the faint of heart. 😉 I am thankful that every post I made has been since been validated.
    • Leaving your church series – For those struggling with their church and/or considering leaving it. (This might sound strange coming from a pastor, but I think it will encourage you.)
    • Discipleship Stories series – a collection of posts from those I’ve had the privilege and joy of “watering” their faith (and watching God bring growth) along the way.

Footnoted
  1. Consider reading What politicians should learn from pastors from back in 2012 for a flavor of why politics are strategic and why pastors should be more involved.[]
  2. Sadly, every single person I tagged in that post no longer blogs actively![]
